ameracauna rooster rapist

I have about 14 hens and a few too many roosters...3 Wellsummer, 2 Ameracaunas, 2 cream legbars .

I've noticed that the Ameracauna roos are destroying my hens..they seem to attack and pull feathers like crazy...so much more than the others...I'm a bit concerned...Is it because I have too many roos or is this common with this breed.

Any thoughts?

You don't mention the ages of your chickens, but, I would bet they are all young. And their hormones are frustrating them.

Do you have a way that you can separate the hens from the roosters?

Seven roosters is exactly six too many for your hens to have to tolerate.

I agree with enola. I expect your birds are still young. Your cockerels are ready to mate but your pullets are not. Add to that the fact that you have far too many males.

You should find a way to separate the males, asap. Get rid of 6, or even all, of the cockerels. Or butcher them. Your females should not have to put up with all that testosterone.

Agreed. 6 roos too many. They need to be segregated into a bachelor pad. You can then choose the most likely candidate, and see how he does with the girls. Eventually, you should find one who can treat the girls decent. My avatar roo is an EE. Very nice to his girls, loves to take part in the nesting rituals, is a very good Daddy, and good tidbitter.
