What's the difference? How can you tell what you are getting? Are there any reputable hatcheries that carry pure bred ameracaunas?

I notice that Nature's Hatchery sells Easter Eggers which they say are mistakenly called Ameracaunas and Auracanas. At least they are honest about it.

If you search around, you'll find MANY good posts on the subject. There are some breeders that you can get them from, but as far as commercial hatcheries.... probably only a couple and I can't remember off the top of my head which ones they are.

The basic difference is that true Ameraucanas meet a standard for style and color and EEs can be anything that lays a colored egg and while they may often seem typey... they don;t breed true of meet the requirements for the breed.

This Thread will help.

Explains a lot of it, and shows lots of photos.

The best way to tell though is where you got it from. If it is sold from a hatchery, feedstore, or "breeder" who doesn't know what an Easter Egger is, it's an Easter Egger.

Ameraucanas are only from reputable breeders.
