I have a white, black, and black/lav. AMERAUCANA cockerel. This is our first time to have this breed and I was wondering which one I should keep to run with the girls. I can only keep ONE. I know nothing about genetics, so which would breed best back to silver, black, black/lav. and white hens?
Thanks!

The color isn't the key, but if you have a color of cockerel that doesn't match the hens, why keep him?

You need to show pics if they're old enough, because in Ameraucana cockerels it is the conformation that counts.

How's the beard/muffs, the comb, the eyes, the back, the tail angle/base? How about the chest?

Then the thing to do is wait, if you want to actually breed quality Ameraucanas. Otherwise, I would take the black one if I were you. It can cover black/lav split, black, and it can also cover Silver to improve size if your black has the right genes. Also, Black Ameraucanas have the higher tendency to lay bluer eggs.

Black, but if you are brteeding for fun I would take personality into account. I feel that a nice roo is just as important as a pretty one. I would wait until they reach maturity so you can see who gets aggressive once they are that age and ready to mate, or choose the nicest black and handle him a lot so that he becomes friendly.
