Nope. It's a certain cockerel. Hatchery Easter Eggers have a common trait of throwing cockerels with this color, and hens don't come in this color. I have one who looked like this when he was young.
Wait and don't do anything drastic yet. I have a pullet that looked rooish for a long time... Red comb and narrowr feathers down the neck. She definitely a girl and started laying around 7months.
Well, looks like we'll keep him around for a awhile longer. I have specific instructions that if there is any doubt, Robin stays. I'd like to keep him anyway, rooster or not, he's a nice guy. Plus, we want chicks. City ordinances are a downer. Anyone have great ideas for keeping contraband roosters?
I'm in the same boat....my iffy (but pretty sure roo) EE is about 7 weeks. Nice, fun bird so far but we're already breaking the # limit so I don't really want to break the roo rule, too. Let's hope...
Thanks for the advice all. I had this guy labeled roo when we got him home at 3 days old. Just had that "feeling". We're breaking the # law too. I just can't imagine having only 3 birds. Plus, we have another suspected silkie roo in the mix. We really want to keep him to pair with the silkie hen and have some BABY SILKIES (yessss). Two roosters is probably too many. I talked with my neighbors about it and they made sour lemon faces. And the longer we keep Robin the more I like him. That's why I'm in a hurry to get him out of here. I still prefer the sound of a rooster crowing to sirens and barking dogs any day. Call me crazy. Next they'll outlaw the sounds of crickets and frogs.
