Ameraucana... Friendly birds?

I'd put mine somewhere in the middle of the friendliness scale. I'm sure it has more to do with how they were raised than anything else, although I had a hatch a few months back of Ameraucanas, EEs, and rocks, and raised them together. They are now 16 weeks old, and the EEs are by far the calmest and easiest to work with.

We have 7 from 4 different ABC breeders. Two of the girls are a little on the not so friendly to other chickers and a bit skittish, but the other ones are as sweet as anything. My DD wants to use the Roo for Showmanship this year. He follows you and jumps up on your arm for cuddling.
They do spend a lot of time with them, but ours seem to have pretty nice personalites.
Probably on a scale of 5-10 for friendly anyway. (o:

Of course the two skittish ones have great egg color, so hmm...gotta stay.

We have two and I would agree with others - not as friendly as our Red Stars and Light Brahma. When we add to our flock we have agreed to get more of these two breeds over others.

I would have to echo Wynette & Cottagegarden. Personally, I haven't been able to spend a lot of time with my birds so they aren't overly friendly. I wouldn't say they are overly flighty either. They tolerate my existence and presence but don't come running over to jump up in my lap and be carried around.

Having said that, here is a quote I received recently from one of my customers, "The Ameraucana is the friendliest by far she is going to be a real joy!" and another wrote, "The new favorite around here is the ameraucana, we should have gotten 1 more."

Both of these ladies talked about how friendly their Ameraucanas were. One said the little pullet would fly up on her shoulder and even flew up on her husband's back one time when he bent over to do something. They don't have a large flock and spend quite a bit of time with their birds though.

God Bless,
