Ameraucana or EE?

Well after reading the link you post I think I found the one feature that makes her NOT pure....her egg is the mint color one. Bummer!!! She’s still beautiful and my favorite boss lady!

Your girl looks like a self blue (lavender) Ameraucana. Pure Ameraucana can lay shades from a grayish blue all the way to Aqua with a green tint. Here is a reference chart from the Ameraucana Breeder’s Club:

Some breeders strive for the blue egg, but it is difficult to find. My splash ameraucana lays this color egg. It is pretty but it isn’t the blue I was hoping for. No matter, she is a lovely bird and all the eggs look the same on the inside!

I could be totally wrong, but I thought lavender wasn’t a recognized color officially in Ameraucana? You said the lady the eggs came from had various breeds, do they all run together or she has separate pens for each breed? I would love to have that hen personally in my flock and she could be used for a breeding project, but might not be true purebred, just “purebred” not that I know much about SOPs ...

Self blue was recognized as an official color this past Spring.

Finally got a response from her and yes she did at one point breed Ameraucana and she does separate her breeding pens. I have got hatching eggs for her a few times now from both her breeding pens and mixed flock just at the beginning I never paid much attention to her labeling of the eggs. She’d often throw in a few extras for me!

Does she ship eggs? I might try hatching again in spring. That hen is lovely! Though I really need an actual blue egg layer for my flock. Crossing fingers for the two TSC EE pullets, but not holding out much hope

She does not....where are you located? She also recently moved farms so she said she’s not sure if her breeding pens will all be set up early spring. I’m hoping to hatch on Crested Cream Legbars and I’m searching for a breeder for quality hatching eggs in spring.

Self Blue is the most recently recongnized color. Here is a quote from the Ameraucana Alliance: "The APA now recognizes nine varieties of large fowl: black, blue, blue wheaten, brown red, buff, self blue (1/24/20202), silver, wheaten, and white. What they call "self blue" is really the lavender variety, but the APA officers refuse to use the proper name. The lavender variety is the result of the lavender gene that was identified and termed "lavender" (lav) by poultry scientists back in 1972."
