ameraucana??????

Ok guys and gals. I totally thought the breed of this hen was ameraucana..... well I got the first egg from her yesterday..... the egg was white with a shade of cream..... help me understand why I dont have green blue etc eggs from her

The vast majority of "Ameraucanas" sold in the USA are actually "Easter Eggers", which are mutts bred by crossing Ameraucanas with pretty much any other breed.

The easiest way to tell if you got a true Ameraucana is to look at the price you paid for it. If the price of the chick was on par with common varieties like Orpingtons and Rhode Island Reds, then your chick is actually an Easter Egger. True Ameraucanas are MUCH more expensive than run-of-the-mill breeds, and it would be exceptionally unlikely that you'd be able to get even just a day-old cockerel for less than $10.

Most EE's lay blue or green eggs, so that was bad luck, I suppose. On the upside, you have a lovely bird who will lay well all winter long and handle the summer heat better than most. Good luck.
