American Buff Geese ?

I have heard that geese are often not fertile their first year (the gander) and are more likely to be fertile the second year. Luckily, my gander was fertile this first year, so not sure if that is true or not.

The three geese I bought back in March of 2013, both the females laid quite a few eggs, in the spring of 2014. And out of it I incubated 5 all hatched and the females hatched 13 themselves. So I'd have to say either my gander was one of the special ones who was fertile being less than a year old, or the statement of ganders not being able to reproduce is false, when being so young.
