I’ve noticed in various threads that a decent amount of people are losing birds to critters all over. Nobody wants to trap them? I must be missing something.

Yep, I noticed that too... I’ve mostly given up participating on those... it’s kinda like watching somebody trying to loosen a lug nut with a hammer and trying not to say anything

I love the logic that I don’t agree with a certain trap yet it’s acceptable to allow the rest of the birds to get eaten alive? Humans have a funny way of looking at things. I’m kinda like “the end justifies the means”

I hate it when people come crying on here that their favorite chicken got eaten by a predator because it was out free ranging. If you don’t want to lose your birds either eliminate/thin out the predator population or have a covered run for your chickens.

It’s a bit like going to Vegas and cheering for the dealer, but if you’re looking to pick the winner... you gotta recognize that many of these folks are sitting at the black jack table playing Go Fish

I don’t have kids.... and patience is often not my strong suit ...

I do sun up to sun down sits in a tree a few times a year around November 6-ish... and my wife is baffled that I have the patience for that... somehow that I can do, but teaching a kid anything but how to get in trouble or annoy their parents is a skill I just don’t have

Somehow I actually have patience to teach kids outdoor stuff. I have a lot of enthusiasm for it all since that’s pretty much all I do anyway. Two days ago my son says. “I think I can set a raccoon trap myself” lol he isn’t strong enough yet to compress the springs on a DP trap or a 110 but I let him bait, use guiding sticks etc. Teaching my own kid is far different than teaching someone else’s though. I can’t undo that kinda damage in such a short time.

I kinda do too. I’m thinking just kill them all and get it over with. Lol
I think people just like to commiserate and look for attention. They’re looking for a shoulder to cry on. “Oh we’re in the same boat” blah blah blah.
I sure do wonder how people managed to keep chickens alive all these years. These people nowadays just throw in the towel after a few drops of blood gets spilled. I’ve even contemplated a flame thrower from Elon Musk.

Everyone knows more since they’ve had chickens for 3 yrs with no problems. When that day comes though they understand pretty quick. Besides it’s not worth catching them since more will just move in.

I’m not a chicken expert by any means, this summer I will have been raising chickens for 4 years. While I do know a lot about chickens I don’t consider myself an expert. There is always more that I can learn about chickens whether it’s from books, hands on experience, or from you guys.
I really appreciate all the information you guys share with me and the time you take to answer my questions.
