American Gamefowl

Ima save y’all the trouble and not talk bout my health.

Yeah I’ve got two Cuban sisters raising biddies. The first chick that was on the ground this year was raised by two blue/mug sisters out of a rooster barrel none the less.

They sure can be sneaky. This year I’ve had hens sit multiple times broke em a lot as I didn’t want many it’s a lot of work raising gamefowl, but I’ve been feeling better and I’m back to work so I’ll let em do what they want I reckon.
I'm glad your feeling better.
It's always nice to have chicks, but then that adds more work.

I had hens I broke earlier in the year, but this one is just determined to keep on going broody, so I decide to see what happens. Gives me a chance to see how good of a Mama she is. I can reach the eggs, so may candle them 1 night to see if I need to remove any. I know...shouldn't candle LOL I usually do 1 time and get rid of clears or anything that may end up stinky. 🙃

Up and coming 2 month old Black/Sweaters we'll see.

Nice is that from the original hen did she start laying?
It is! She began laying again right before she turned 2! I was surprised for sure, figured she would never lay but just that one egg from way back.
I had thought about culling her a couple of times, but just didn't have the heart, I like her.
She came back into lay for a good while before she went broody, the eggs I had been getting looked really good, so I let her have at it.
It's funny, she wanted done with those chicks at close to 4 wks so I moved her and she laid an egg the next day and hasn't let up yet - making up for lost time it seems🙃

Thanks, I'm sort of excited to have them. At least the pullets. I may keep a stag out of that bunch, we'll see.
I still have a Leiper/Black/Blue rooster besides Mr. Black (plus hens/pullets) so *hopefully* have enough leeway to keep them it all going for a good long time.

Good deal! These Cubans just started laying this year and my pumpkin which is going on 5yrs old just started last season. I’m glad she came around I thought she might.

Always something with gamefowl we brought home a black from the other property last night had the wife do the cord and she must have not clinched it right or tight enough. So the black got off and picked a cuban/black on a cord to mess with. We all hate this, but both are eating and drinking and I’ll doctor them up but it’s something that happens with gamefowl for whomever thinks they have to be made to fight is an ignorant fool or that they are pie to raise is also a fool. I caught these in time before one or the other died and I’m lucky I did. 0ADB4BC1-378F-4CF1-BC4F-5110950F4949.jpeg 0E1474BE-0D24-40B0-AE42-B402E3DCC45A.jpeg FF6F9CD9-2F27-4C7A-9356-B6B54B4A2597.jpeg 24C7958D-59EA-4261-B296-74CB3B1DB473.jpeg

Happens in a hurry, glad you caught them though.

You still got birds at your old place?

Nah I wish they would have sold us that place but they never got the ball moving. I’ve got em about 15mins from the house to grow out a few. And I’ve got the ones I wanna breed for the most part here at the house.

I’ll eventually round the ones I don’t cull up when old enough and pen em up over there to grow em out a bit.

I hatched only 40 chicks this year and already down to 12. Will reduce that to 8 by first frost. Still getting some drama. One of the little stags to took on a hen better than twice his size and whopped her with the help of dog that usually chews on him.

Stag was willing to fight with dog present.

Most of what is being kept are a version of gray.
