American Gamefowl

Do you guys feed a specific type of feed to your Gamefowl or make your own? What I mean by make your own is do you use a standard chicken feed and then add grains or such to it?

I use southern states Flock Balancer Pellets. Southern states 5 grain scratch and then mix them together. Mostly pellets with some scratch mixed in. They used to be called (rooster booster) and came in a red bag. I almost switched because I don’t like the new packaging at all.

My point was if you’re going to set a farm that butts up against a bunch of houses on 5 acre parcels or similar, you can use a suppressor or CBs and most of those folk won’t ever know you’re there.... pop off a couple .22 Kong’s and now you’re dealing with a lot of knuckleheads....

I read a funny trapping story about a tree hugger fella who was messing with a trapper, and got a hand in a coil spring.... the fool couldn’t figure out to use his feet to let it loose and he sat there over night...cops and medics were called, tree hugger guy got fined for trespass and harassment...

... but still, that’s the kind of nonsense that’s out there and can be avoided by keeping off folks radar...
I posted a link to a 110 bodygrip from Amazon awhile back. I read the reviews, why I don’t know. Anyway some guy bought one, couldn’t figure out how to set it, sent it back and then posted a review stating it should come with instructions. :he
That’s not even funny!! This idiot knew how to post a review on Amazon but he couldn’t manage to find a video on setting a 110? It’s all a lost cause. It’s best to just sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

I add but just recently. I've used two pellets one by Bartlett and the same havoc uses from southern states. I like the southern states better, but it has become a pain to get here lately as it seems I'm one of a handful that uses it I may just have to buy more at a time here soon as I do think it's a great feed even left alone. I add a bit of whole corn, oats and split peas to the pellets.
And you guys feed this year round? Do you feed anything different when the birds are breeding or molting?

Feed year round both are 20% but I think the southern states has a better type of protein an ingredients than most. The only issue I had was it was causing a few roosters feathers to turn up and not long after I brought it down to 18ish % that went away that's the only reason I add to it.

Year round I don’t change anything. The southern states stuff smells like molasses and will draw in raccoons like crazy if you get nuts throwing it all over the place.

People get all crazy about planting this and planting that and micro managing things for free range birds, feed formulations etc.
I watch birds chase down grasshoppers all summer long and that’s keeping the grass mowed every week. Just let the chickens out to run around and they’ll be a helluva lot healthier. Their feathers are in better shape since they get rained on and preen often too. Just let em out instead of keeping them in a safe cage and you won’t be able to deny the difference. I’ve also never seen bumble foot on a free range bird.

I agree I've even seen mine eating crawdads out of the spring they'll find food an it does em good doing it.
