Pretty positive she's got 10 total.

Thing about my "kelso" is they can be friendly as can be or meaner than a hornet hoping to breed some of that out down the road.
I prefer the birds that are really easy to handle. It just seems to make such a difference in the offspring. Sometimes if I have a nice hen, but a little skittish, I will put her eggs under a calm hen. Having that calm hen raise the chicks often makes a real difference. Then are some that are just plain crazy... and they find a new home. I have no problem with confident and cocky birds, I just don't want to be torn up! A first for me the other day was when I went to catch a cock from a pen and the hen attacked me. Caught me by surprise.

I don’t have any issues with hens that are extremely aggressive when they’re raising chicks at all. My most aggressive hens when broody or actually rearing chicks are some of the friendliest hens I have otherwise. Skittish and crazy birds usually don’t make it into a pen. There’s nothing more annoying then a crazy hen for no reason.

I don't mind a broody being protective especially towards other birds and animals, but most of my broodies, but not all, will call their chicks right over to me. That may just be more of a handling thing as I have received hens from other people that just don't seem to get that comfortable with me being around their chicks. Nothing wrong with them, just not that accepting. I have one hen like that right now that I used as a surrogate, just because of timing. Her chicks are really friendly, but often when they come to get treats, she calls them away.
