American Gamefowl

Once they start laying eggs again they start getting annoyed with the chicks real fast. They’ll start getting less and less patient with them. Hen might jimmy fly snooka a chick if they decide they’re done. It’s easy to see the signs though. Can’t miss them. It’ll start as a couple pecks here and there and then you’ll see the hen just not paying attention to them anymore. They’re always plenty old enough by this point anyway though.

I’ve never been able to separate hens and then put them back together. Like Sohc said if they were kept together they’ll be ok usually but not always.
I had two pullets this year I penned with a cock. They were sisters and they went at it quite a bit but the cock broke them up pretty fast.
Generally it’s a safe bet that if you want them to be together keep them that way.

So separate before or at least when you see some super fly snuka action. Don't wait for bruser brody to enter the ring or it'll be like sohc had happen.
So you don't think free ranging on 3 acres with several various size out buildings, outhouses and doghouses would work well for just hens?

I’ve had it happen too. Even though just about all will go broody and hatch chicks some are better mothers than others. Just like people. Lol
The hens would be totally fine if you free rangers them on 3 acres. Collect them up and pen them when broody then turn them loose again when they’re done. They’ll be some scuffles but no big deal.

Just this mountain air makes em crazier. I've got 7 acres and they stay around the house for most part. That's a good thing though tons of varmints here.
I thought mountain air was supposed to be good for you?
IDK. But never hurts to start setting up a defence strategy early. Never know when it may be needed later in life.

Yep I trap a bit, just setup decent electric fence and have pulled many all nighters Havoc's helped where he could. Im always locked an loaded, even then things can still happen.

When I was a kid one of my uncles had a pasture set up using tethers and rows and rows of those blue plastic barrels. He had tons of hens that just ran everywhere. They seemed to get bred by whoever they got in range of and nested anywhere and everywhere.
Idk if he had issues because I never really asked and honestly at the time didn't understand the whole set up. I just knew he had a lot of birds, a lot of chicks and was a crazy but funny old b@stard.
