When they’re real little everything is fun. Then as they get older is when they really start to decide what’s interesting. My son isn’t overly excited about chickens anymore and fishing is starting to get old. I need to take him to a different lake, streams and all.
I mentioned going to Maine on a fishing trip and he says how about Alaska! I laughed and asked him if he was paying. He’s nuts.

Yeah I hear ya we almost adopted a teenager that was 11 and left at 13. I got him his first rifle .243 and his first deer, but that faded fast with the waiting game and when it got at double to single digits we also did respite for a 17yr old for a month until he aged out. I've had my share of troubled youth under my roof and never been more fired up then the way they can act. Had I ever acted like that well i don't even wanna think about it lol I got enough growing up and deserved everyone of em.

I do have to admit I've got some well behaved kids with my oldest just turning 7 last Friday. Many times older, middle age, and younger have came up to me saying they are some of the best mannered an behaved kids they've seen, but they have their moments I promise.

My boy throws safety out the window 9 times out of 10.
Just an example I was taken off the trash yesterday I haven't driven the truck in a few weeks I just start it here and there to get it up to temp out of open loop mode to hear it beat the ground :D. Anyhow I put him in his set didn't even get him buckled he says daddy go fast I just laughed an smiled. Well I got on it a little on the back road nothing crazy lay into at about 20 and it'll boil the tires a little and let off he's nothing but all grins. Well I had to go to a meeting to sign some stuff out in town and here he goes just giving me down the road to go fast, I said boy you just want daddy to get a ticket he said no daddy just go fast mind you he's 2 lol. Anyway I told him I can't he wasn't to thrilled until I put some jerry lee Lewis on hes my shadow for sure and pretty fearless for now haha I'll enjoy it while it last. My fondest memories of my dad was going to cruises in his galixie 500 and doing burnouts he was a car nut and that stuck with me I was only 4 when he passed so I don't recall much besides the cars and Him being sick one day and his viewing the next. I wanna spend as much time as I can with mine which is one of the reasons I take off work during the summers I sure want them to know their daddy cares for em.

My son likes to draw too. He wanted to draw a mink on the boxes. Not too bad. The one on the left clearly listens to rap music. :hmm
He had them all set up to show me.
Disregard the little chickens.

That’s awesome! Sounds like he lucked out and got one of the good ones...

A little parenting advice from the cheap seats:

Teach that kid one thing that you know, that no one else he knows, knows...

...do that once and you’re his hero...

do that every year of his life till he’s about 15 and forgets you exist... and not only is he a better person for you making the effort, so are you... and that’s forever...

The harder part is if you do it for kid 1, you gotta do the same for kid 2, 3,4,5,6,7...!:th
