American Gamefowl

I can’t recall if it was online or in an old book, or maybe FF&G ... but I just read about the price of near black skunks in the 20s (maybe?) ... they were dyed and sold as mink... if I remember correctly...

...but the price they fetched at the time, adjusted to today’s dollar... was something completely astounding... I wish I could remember where I read that... but it was one of those things that when you stopped and did the math, made you realize how different things were at that time.
Skunks were always marketed as something else (sable) was one of them. They were trying to hide the fact it was a skunk because of the “stigma” that comes with them. I don’t see the issue but back then those types were all uppity.
I’m fine with the fur prices. If they were really high it would bring out all the sh*tbags that are just looking for money and stealing traps and fur. A little higher would be nice though.

It is kind of a dark red and tan. Makes me think of Sweater McGinnis. Am I remembering correctly that he was know for wearing a red sweater?
Could be just the red in the pattern. I wear flannel shirts pretty often but most of mine are dark blue or natural colors.

Fine. :( I’m gonna have to get rid of this guy! I get tossed out of multiple threads and now he’s stealing my thunder in this one!!

Lol... probably a good idea

Yeah I’m more of a “let loose a lot of expletives” kinda person. I’ve caught myself in everything I’ve ever set except a 280 or 330. The 220s don’t feel good either, especially when I’m trying to compress the spring with my foot. Lol
When I’m setting 280s and 330s I use a safety. Once set the safety comes off the jaws then the spring safeties. I also take off my gloves no matter the temp so I can feel better. Those traps are no joke.

We always use the jaw safeties too... I like to walk away leaving them on and then remember 10 minutes later...

I think in that particular case it was just one too many people in the mix... his arm was bruised for a bit but he had a sweat shirt and jacket on that likely saved him any thing serious

Sable sounds right... I remember reading there were a bunch of made up critter names used for marketing rabbit and other lower end fur back then too...

I wish I could remember where I read that... but it seems like the money worked out to something like $75-$100 in today’s money for the ones with little to no stripe... it was just hard for me to imagine a stinker being worth that much

Interesting leg color. What's the other one look like?
None of the 6 are like that chick but they are a little mottled.

That’s a really nice shot!

You might even say it’s meme worthy ;)
