American Gamefowl

They can be real sweethearts, by themselves, but they are the jealous type when let out together.
LOL I noticed that :)

I'm a total noob with these guys, there is a learning curve for sure, but I've enjoyed it all so far!

They are the best chickens I have ever raised, but they have their challenges. I make the mistake all the time, thinking they have more time to free range. Then, all of a sudden, it all hits the fan!

I goofed a bit. I thought I had the overhead wire secured far enough up, so they couldn't go over. Of course, I was not home (always!) The pullet went over and got with the other fella. He was happy to have company LOL She was fine too, roaming around in there, eating his food, etc. Thank goodness that Bl/Sw did not go over, I would have at minimum badly hurt birds, but likely one would be dead.

oh, yeah, I fixed that wire real quick too!

It's not trouble it's the name of the game. If I had gamefowl wondering around at 8months or so just minding his own he'd be ate and I'd be looking at his family as a whole in general.

I usually like the 5-6month spot they get penned before anything bad goes down usually, but I had deaths even before then this year and I really could not afford those so most was up at 4 1/2 to 5 months sure beats losing outstanding birds especially with a low stag rate this season. Can't grow out what ya ain't got if I had more I would have pushed my luck heck all but 7 pullets are in the trees every night it's been that way for awhile now and they bicker and throw down harder than some roosters I've seen and that's no joke with these black/dmm's.

I find enjoyment out of 98% of it. When winds takes staked and tied down pens that's when your stomach drops cause you know something has went down and it won't be pretty.

The oldest bird I have out is just under 5 months. Wyorp rocks are younger than that.
Alt depends on how your yard is set up and whether or not they stay separate most of the day. Also how many pullets are out with them. They will start to segregate themselves off for a little while which adds time. Not much but maybe a couple weeks.

The pictures I take of them are the only time throughout the day when they’re all jammed up together like that. I do it on purpose to take pictures and to see how long I’ve got depending on the individual birds. The rest of the day they are scattered all over the place and in the woods.
Normally when I throw them feed I’m quick about it and spread birds out by throwing feed in various directions. If they were always in close proximity like that I wouldn’t have many birds left at all by now.
