American Gamefowl

I had a gassy gut pop and blow who knows what In my mouth and face once when my knife slipped :sick ... that was not pleasant

How ‘bout you switch the crossbow first and tell me how you like it, lol

... it ain’t about need though, I just like the suit... it makes me invisible ;) (and I’m not tied to a tree)

I had a bobcat climb into a brush pile with me a few years ago... it walked up a log two foot to my right... and then if that wasn’t cool enough it jumped a rabbit about ten yards from me after it passed by...

Last year I had young 8pt trot in and stand eye to eye with me at 8 yards as I sat on a blowdown ... I could smell him... he was all juiced up and steaming out of his nose, looking for love... he looked right through me, and then he just walked on...
Ugh. I’ve had foxes walk by me pretty close but never a bobcat. We don’t really have them here where I hunt so that could be why. lol
I had a 6pt coming up a trail one day when I was checking traps. I was wearing jeans and sweatshirt but I just laid down just off the trail. That buck almost stepped on me. He freaked so bad he fell over! He got up and started stomping his feet and blowing at me. I thought he was gonna charge me. I’d have gutted him real quick like with my genuine Jim Bowie knife. (Got it off the knife connection late late show) so at least I was prepared.
He came inches from stepping on my arm and I laughed and he just totally lost it.

I made a small post on a possum thread.
Oh ok, lol

Lol, yep getting close is where the fun is...

I have tried to ‘count coup’ on deer I met coming in on a trail like that a few times but never got it done...

Had one ‘count coup’ on me once though... I was literally flat on back napping in the middle of the day and had a little doe that I’d been seeing all week sneak up on me... when I opened my eyes I could see her whiskers over the bill of my hat as she was sniffing it

And then one summer I would go out with a spot light and put the sneak on raccoons in the yard ... I could get a couple feet from them just by going slow and staying this side of the light... but at that distance they’d hear my feet and think it was a mouse or something and come waddling at me, so I’d have to scoot back, which made more noise and then they’d lunge... I quit after a couple bounced off my legs, lol

I probably should take up golf or get cable or something

I’ve got a story for you.
I had this big 8 pt come by. I’ve been watching him for 3 years and he seemed to be on his way down so I was gonna try and take him.
I decided to get down from my stand after only about 2 hrs. I was using a climber. I got all the way to the base and I see this buck wandering up the trail. I was using a compound bow and release. The release gets annoying on my wrist while using the climber so I just stuck it in my pocket. Anyway I let the buck pass and I hurried back up the tree and pulled my bow up. The buck turned around and came back perfectly. I stood and got ready to shoot only to realize I dropped the release and it was laying at the base of the tree. I was pulling 76 lbs on a hoyt Katera and I’ve never tried shooting with my fingers so I let him go. I didn’t want to wound him. From then on when I lowered my bow I either kept my release on or attached it around one of the limbs. Live and learn.

See you need a crossbow so you don’t have to worry about a release :gig

I use a release that is on a strap rather than a solid bar, and just tuck it into my jacket cuff to keep it out of the way... for exactly the reasons you mention...

I’ve got a fondness for a few of the ones that got away like that...

Had it happen to me with a special one once when I was working wax into the string right at the pulley trying to quite a slight creak ... it was early January and temps of around zero so everything seemed extra loud right at dark... so before I went out that night I was pulling the string slightly, over and over working in the wax and in doing so rolled the string over so the peep was backwards... which I discovered later at full draw ... of course
