American Gamefowl

I bought a 04 jeep Cherokee Laredo 4.0 automatic 4x4 with 205000miles. I can drive it for an hour due to work and it might not skip at all or it might skip 5times. The skip might be at take off or it might be at 80 or anywhere between. It drops 10mph on the gauge but don't feel bad and it picks right back up and goes. Nothing comes up on a computer at advance or orileys. I replaced the plugs because a few was dark and I like running ngk plugs. Any idea what's causing the skip

Transmission?

Check the fuel pressure always start with the basics change the filter aswell, run some cleaner through it it could also be a injector issue. Also make sure it's getting good spark just because you change your plugs doesn't mean it's getting the correct amount of spark many things to check. A lot of times a miss won't set a hard code and 9 times out of 10 it's due to humidity getting into a hair line crack in the coils or distributor thus coming and going.

Those jeeps are notorious for trans problems also could be the tq converter locking and unlocking aswell.

I appreciate it. My buddy is borrowing a good computer and we are going to check everything we can befor taking it to someone. I figure if I can get it running right and get a year out of it I will put a better transmission in it

What's a lock up clutch

Most 95+ vehicles have a lock up clutch in the tq converter thus making it easier on the trans and easier drive ability. When it's engaged you will get all the power a converter is meant to slip in stop and go when cruising the lock up clutch will engage. If it's lockzing and unlocking its cause a buck and usually a whine/ vibration.

Let's say you are in 4th and it's at 2k well then it drops rpm a few hundred that is lock up. Let's take my gold truck for example it's got a 3200 stall converter i have it setup in the computer to not lock in 1-2 partially lock in 3rd under 75% throttle and full lock in 4th. Slipping a transmission is what it is basically doing until it fully locks up.
