Best buckets I’ve found are like the cat litter buckets and cut half the lid where there square they work real good and don’t seem to kick as much outI cut the side of my buckets for nest buckets. I used to make them like yours but I like leaving the lid on the buckets. This year I’m having hens scratch all the hay out of them , I put more hay in and they scratch it out. I wonder if anybody has had this happen and has a cure I’d really like to hear it

Yeah same here I get buckets from work sometimes that are the square style so that’s what I’m going to now. Usually I just use a Home Depot bucket or whatever is laying around and frame around it with old scrap wood to keep it from rolling around it does decent I guessTheirs better ways than mine and far worse. I didn't buy my buckets so the majority had no lids to start with they work for the most part at keeping the eggs/straw in and decently dry.
