If it had a top I think it would help the hen feel safer

I thought about a top, but that hen is ummm...temperamental(?) let's say... I think she would go ballistic. Ceiling of pen is probably another 3ft above her there - not a very tall pen inside.

T.E.T. (aka The Evil Twin) has "accepted" the box I built her (don't judge my skilz LOL) so now I'm *hopeful* after a few more eggs she will be inclined to sit. I'm not holding my breath

I can't reach her to rub her belly

I'm looking forward to the broodiness LOL It will be fun, she'll be just fine. She's not too much of a maniac unless I put Valeriy in there, then she's a Wall Climbing NUT (after he mounts her).

She's not stupid. Took her 2 mornings learn to WAIT and see if I was going to open the hatch and let him into her side. Now I have to WAIT until she's down and carry him over there. I suspect she'll get wise to that too and as soon as she seems me coming with him she'll fly up to her vulture post I don't think she likes him one bit, but eggs I opened were fertile LOL

Other than rooster crazy, she's getting friendlier, even warming up and coming to the gate when I come with treats. No hand feeding this gal, but I'm making progress.

Ima thinking that Hillbilly is on to something though - I may just have to go through my wood stash and make a top for that box.

Or you can get a Lowe’s bucket for $5.
Why did you take the eggs? You’re just prolonging her setting if you’ve taken them.

I didn't take the eggs, I tested a couple before those, he's been with her a few times since. There's 4 maybe 5 eggs in there now, I haven't checked today.

You can also give her a stern talking. Put her on a tie cord and sit with her for a while. She’ll learn to love you like she loved me.

LOL I think she'll settle in there, she's been spending more and more time there after she lays an egg. I can definitely lock her in there though. (IF she doesn't hear me coming ).

Ha! I figured - you put the Twins on cords and picked out the craziest one to send me By winter, I might have her tamed. She's actually really calm when being held, it's the gettin' her part that's hard.
