American Gamefowl

I seen ones they had on like a motorized pulley system I thought to myself yeah that looks cheap!
When I get all set up hunting down along the coast I’ll set up a jerk rig but it’s manual. Ya just hook 4 decoys to the line with a bungee. When ducks get close overhead a slight pull gets those decoys moving which works good on calm days.

I’ve seen the ones they do manual but this one had to be motorized at least it appeared that way to me. I very well could be wrong wouldn’t be the first time.

Oh yeah they have all kinds of crazy stuff. If you can drive up to the pond or something and don’t have to paddle or motor a long ways a lot of that stuff would be worthwhile. For me I try to keep it as simple as possible. Occasionally I’ll run about 4 dozen decoys but not much more than that. Picking up that many by myself with my son can be a pain and by that point I’m usually frozen stiff.

Got the dogs trained to fetch a bird yet? I’d say setting em out before hand and then rounding em up wouldn’t be so grand especially if ya didn’t get a mess. Can only imagine how the water would feel on a nice cold morning cause I’d likely find myself soaked.

All the decoys have loops and I use a D ring. They’re Texas rigged type deals. The old style of wrapping cord and j hook weights tear your hands up so bad in the cold. I’m practically crying by the time I get back to the truck.

Seen a bunch of geese on the river a few weeks back ain’t seen to many wild ducks on water to be honest.
Still too early. Mostly wood ducks and resident mallards around and the few resident black ducks. Takes a good cold front to push ducks south and it seems to happen later and later every year. Then I’m fighting ice, breaking paddles and searching for open water.
