Well I noticed today that my 6 month old GLW rooster has taken a liking to the adopted game hens. I caught him breeding two of them earlier today and now he has decided to roost with them in the barn instead of going into the coop like normal. Two of my other hens (a blue Andalusian and a black Australorp) have decided to join them...

Hoping I don't end up with the chicken version of West Side Story...😂

How do you like them so far?
 
I don’t think I could deal with snow like that, I can barely deal when the weather gets into the 40s. This year I’m mostly focused on seeing what the mug over bamboo will do, might end up with worthless ones but ya never know until you try it. I’m gonna do a few more of my Gerard crosses to but those usually end up getting sold after I go through them a bit.
@roosterhavoc I’d be interested in buying a few of your blacks when it warms up, if you’re serious about downsizing

They are still pretty skittish. Haven't figured out that when I'm tossing them some scratch or mealworms that I'm not trying to murder them so they don't need to run for cover....

I've also learned they are masters at hiding. Several times I've wandered all over looking for them and found nary a feather.... Only for them all to show up magically hours later. Not sure where they are hiding. Also not sure where they are laying. I found a couple of eggs in the barn but since I've collected them they haven't laid there again.

:lol: Mine can be a bit skittish at times when I toss scratch. I notice it more when there's been some Crow or Hawk activity. They don't like quick movements for sure.

LOL They hide really well! Mine do. It's amazing how they can disappear.
Try providing them with a nesting box that's sort of hidden and put a ceramic egg in the box. I did only have 1 laying in their box until I put a ceramic egg in, now I have 3 laying in there. I'm wondering how much drama that's going to cause though, they can get snippy with each other at times.
I know I have at least another that is laying in the tractor shed, but I can't find it, likely underneath the firewood stack:hmm
