Image of interest to me because I can often see health issues recorded in feathers. In this case stag was doing poorly due to cocci infection at time the white and narrow portion of feather at center of yellow square was coming in. He has made a full recovery with dominant rank in his brood. Health issues any time during the season when wing feathers are coming in can have similar impacts on those feathers as they come in. For my birds that means any health issues from late April through later November can impact feather quality for the following year. Nice thing here is all feathers shown will be swapped out by Christmas, as will be those on wings and body.

There are lots of things that can can be used to assess current and past health before you even get to point of handling.

I do not know. They clearly indicators of stress. Similar marks in fish I know better are called checks where daily and annual rings can be affected as well as the topology of the affected structures (otoliths and scales).

Bet that last fly is something different, not that I know Flys. Bet it slams them this time of year where I'm at, shallow 7' and less shad are running hard

You get a shad run in the fall where your at? Like American and Hickory Shad? Our run is in the spring/early summer and I thought they died afterwards.

No real run of bait fish for bass up here not for largies anyhow only two ponds in the county that have large mouths and they are way over fished. We have some smallies here and there on the river but not like we used too plenty of rock bass though. Anyhow here’s some randoms, hope all is well and nice fish and birds fellas and have a good Halloween y’all.

Took the kids to the river right quick after work and school and got a nice little smallie.

Snowed a little here today. Bout time to round up a few of the older stags too. Still got some little ones on the ground though.
