Hello, Im new here and also new at raising larger flock of Chickens. Today I have 2 Americanas that are sick. One is really having a tough time catching its breath, the other is very raspy when breathing. Im also broke unfortunately due to trying to restore my home and property as a result of Hurricane Helene. So going to the vet is out of the question right now.

Please help with your advice. I have already isolated the 2 chickens and trying to see if anymore of them have symptoms. Ive put Safe-guard AquaSol in their water and put some vicks in their surroundings, to help breathing.

Thank you for replying. After my post i was purchasing feed and was talking with a lady about what was going on. She told me to isolate, give electrolyte water and use vicks just a little bit on the gullet and under the wings. I did my research and yes there are warnings about vicks being toxic. But there was also many including vets who said to use vicks sparingly. By the time I got home, more birds different breeds were having similar issue. So I added the electrolyte to all of their water, put a little vicks on the worse birds and put vicks on ceiling in the night coops. withing 2 days almost all of the birds were well again. I was wondering is a small humidifier with a vicks like mist would be more beneficial, but since they were doing better, I didnt pursue it. My opinion, not factual is if using vicks be cautious and know it can cause problems, not to slather the bird up, in this case less is more.
