Americana ? Hen or Roo

Oh, I agree, EEs are great birds. I have both EEs and true Ameraucanas. Mine are up in years now. I have one EE hen who is almost 7 years old and still lays. My black Ameraucana is 7 1/2 and my splash Ameraucana is almost 7 and both are laying now. Great gals. Enjoy your hen! She's got nice coloring! I like her a lot.

At what age do they normally start laying? Bought this one at pullet age and she has grown.

Since EEs have mixed genetics, there is no "normal" for them. I've had them lay as early as 25 weeks or so or as late as 40 weeks. It really depends. The ones I "made" by crossing my BR or Delaware roosters over my true Ameraucana or EE hens tended to lay earlier than the others for some reason, but you just never know.

Remember, letting a pullet take her time to come into sexual maturity lessens issues later on. That's why some grower feeds geared toward pullets specifically have a slightly lower protein level (for example, Buckeye Feeds' pullet grower has 15% protein)The EE hen who started at 40 weeks old is my now almost 7 year old hen and she started laying extra large eggs, not little pullet eggs.
