americana-leghorn hybrid not lay at 24 week

Hi Little kick,I have quite a few different Ameracauna X hens running around here from when I had an Ameracauna rooster that got loose with my freerange hens. So far all of the ones from brown egg layer hens lay green eggs and the two from the Leghorn hen lay tinted eggs. Both of those hens have tiny combs but they are not like regular pea combs. They are tiny, flat, and lean over to one side of the head. As far as size off egg so far mine have been laying eggs only slightly smaller then their Leghorn mother but a little less frequently.
My understanding about olive eggs are that they come from an Ameracauna X Marans cross.

That's so interesting, so much to learn about chicken. Thanks for sharing your story.

You know what, To day my americana x leghorn cross (Helen) laid an egg, and it's a tinted egg! Mystery solved, finally! Exactly 24 weeks old. And now I feel relieved: She is a girl and can lay eggs!

I'm so happy.

My americaunas took foreeeeeeevvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeerrrrr to lay. They were close to 30 weeks! The others were weeks ahead of them and roughly same age. ErinM

ErinM,
It made me feel better knowing your americana pullets not laying at 30 weeks. I hope them will lay soon and probably their eggs are going to be big. Mine are small right now. The americana pullet laid at 22 weeks and missed 5 days so far. My americana x RIR cross laid way more consistent.

The days are pretty short in Massachussette right now, did you provided some artificial light?
