Well that's a bummer. I hope your back gets better.Dang. Hurt my back again. Helping my neice fix her garage into a musher's shed.
Now I'm done for a bit. I can walk and carry water pails to the dogs but I can't run properly. Training is pushed back a cpl weeks now. Too much lifting & bending and holding back excited dogs.
My sled is still in pieces...for now. got most of the components, just gota get active. It's gona better than when I bought it. I love tweekin. Not twerkin, tweekin.

Even away from the town it's tough to mush to the store because everyone else has dogs they let run loose. The biggest problem I have is either these sickening lap dogs and their incessant squeaking or these bigger "big man" dogs such as Rotties. Pits, Staffies and other fighting dogs.Someone wrote about running in town. I have a story about a musher who ran near his home on the outskirts of his town. It was a gravel road and he ran 8-14 with a cart. There was a lady who always came out of her house to watch him go by. With her was always a small dog kinda like a shitzu. He asked her time and again to carry the dog and she wouldn't. She insisted the dog would stay with her.
One day he was going past and the dog ran out. The leaders grabbed it and passed it to the point to the swing and on back to the wheelers, through about 7 pairs. I can't remember if the dog lived through that. The lady tried to sue him.
Even running a small team it doesn't work. Too many small dogs and kitties and small kids to knock down.
My mentor sent this pic the other dayEven away from the town it's tough to mush to the store because everyone else has dogs they let run loose. The biggest problem I have is either these sickening lap dogs and their incessant squeaking or these bigger "big man" dogs such as Rotties. Pits, Staffies and other fighting dogs.
I've taken to carrying a sling slot w/marbles, a paint ball gun and a 22 rimfire semi auto.
Was a time not long ago that all I needed was a strong yelling voice and a stick, but them days are gone with all these irresponsible idiots "training" their dogs to attack and fight but don't keep them restrained.
Weird thing is there is a bi-law stating,"ALL DOMESTIC ANIMALS ARE TO BE RESTRAINED AT ALL TIMES".
That modern bi-law actually stems back to a time when the Cdn Government put forth the order to kill all the "northern village dogs" under the guise of eradicating dog-borne disease and "inferior, savage, half-wild, unpredictable, disease ridden, dogs". It was in actuality part of a plan to take away the independence of the people who depended on their dogs for hunting trappin fishing and transportation
Getting back to the bi-law, I am in the process of having our local governing bodies enact and enforce this bi-law. There are way too many roving 'fighting" dogs, guard dogs and/or aggressive dogs posing way too any problems.
Gee, about 3 years ago I was out east about 8 or 10 miles from town and I ran into a pack of 7 skinny dogs. They looked like they were Rottie/Shep/Lab.
In MOOSE TERRITORY!! When I got home I put up a notice stating the whereabouts and asked the owner to round them up.
I went out again and they were still there...a month later. They all appeared rather bony...actually pitiful. I approached the pack and was chased back to my vehicle snipping at my gaiters. After thinking about 15 mins whilst they patrolled around the truck growling, I shot 6 of them(one ran). Yes I know it sounds gruesome but I kept thinking about the families that make harvesting meat a family thing(yes that still happens here) and the kids maybe tryna pet "puppy" and getting attacked.
So I loaded the (dog)bodies into the truck. Low and behold who would be at the animal disposal site...you guessed it...the owners. They actually threatened to come to my yard and kill my dogs. I told them all my dogs are tied up and I apologized stating I had no idea that that the area where these dogs were staving death was actually their (these people) yard and then told them straight they would be "met with like force if they attempted entering my premises in a threatening manner and as a matter of fact I'm considering pressing charges of Uttering Threats just rightnow". They never showed up.
LOL. I wonder what would happen if all of a sudden I let my whole kennel loose. There may be a few in-fights but they all know each-other and would form a very formidable force......against any thing. I think humans would be OK though but not many dogs (even the fighting breeds) would have a chance against 23 kinda snary Husky team dogs in a pack.

Hi Blue.
Yepyep, a bummer. But only a temporary set-back my girl. Ya, I'm kinda old but I'm kinda tuff too. I'm already starting to move a bit better.
Me thinks I'm gona hafta stop Break Dancing and SLIDEnPOP, and Shufflin for a quite some while though.
Thank you for your regard.
How is your training going? Did you get any new dogs? Meringue startin to feel the cooler weather?
OMG I wish I could send pix of Pipoon's pups. Racy looking these ones. Esp sipikahsew(He's Blue) & ayimisew(He's Stern). All are really wolfy looking. Long legs, big, well formed feet, nice angles on the legs. Still got that high tail though so definitely not Alaskan Racing Dogs but oooooo, thems purdy.
I finally Googled Race To The Sky. I wana go.
If my mentor runs it, I will go.Hey guys! Haven't been on in a looong time. News: I got 4 more dogs! Plus tie outs, houses, snow hooks, and some other small kennel gear. All for FREE! It/they all came from Kirk Barnum because he is retiring. I'm so excited for this winter. In total, I've a 7 dog team now. A 12 year old, four 9 year olds, a 2 year old, and a yearling.
Blue: You should come to Race to The Sky! I (might) get to race (very good possibility). How far of a drive is it for you? If you go, will you get to race or just watch? The male pictured above looks nice. Leader?
Rez: Sorry about your back...I know what you mean about the roaming dogs. A new family move in next door (of the 3 houses on our road) and they have 2 German Shepards (GSD). The other house had a GSD, some sort of setter, and a tiny little Finnish breed of some sort. He looks like a Klee Kai almost. Anyways, my dogs have been getting bullied a bit by them so now they are afraid to run past them. I think I'm going to start carrying the BB gun, Probably not the 22 just yet. Race to The Sky: you should definetly come. Though, that's a long drive.
If my mentor runs it, I will go.
Yes.
Where did you get your sled? That's cool. Hopefully you will get to come.
