I found this amazing site that talks about Greenland Husky. In the language of the(Eskimo to those that are not familiar with the politically correct)Inuit (of northern Canada and Greenland and Eastern Siberia) the name of these dogs is Qimmiq.
To some of bleeding heart "pretty puppy no fight" kinda people this entire story would be very hard to wrap their brains around.
So I just copied a small bit for us to read and think about before we delve into mushing.
For those who would desire to have an open mind about a true sled dog perhaps the original or father of huskies I will write an address after the story piece.

"Dogs are changing very dramaticaly due to evolution of civilization and human's needs- so what is responsible for the most, is the breeding factoer. Did you know the real and original Siberian Huskies were so far different than ones which we see now? They weren't so sleek-looking, with pretty and elegant coat before and even more- their personality where different. To gain an example, Balto was the husky from the past (closer to GH looking, so technically, for the most people we'd say just "uglier") which was very very different than nowadays.
What's responsible of the "evolution"?
Needs.
In the past, people's needs were different- they needed a real survival dog to serve humanity with long expeditions and reach to unreachable places on snowy terrains... so what now?
In our civilized parts of world, aka. "West Civilization" or cities, dog breeding is becoming more and more as only entertainment thing. It's mostly for business and fun. Utility dogs are no more needed in this civilization because machinery and technology has replaced- such, sled dogs are completely not needed by this part of the world. Dog shows, breeding for business, olympic sports and trendies ... are the most destructive ones. That part about mushing races, as long as the mushing won't be considered as Winter Olympic Sports, is all fine. Once the fame, gold and money will knock to GH's world... I've witnessed a lot of chaos and cheating GH's bloodline, forming into sporting "mixes" which are nothing like original GH's. "

You can read the whole story by typing into the google search bar the following... The Gronlandshund by Exileden on deviantART
PS. I need to warn you this story will open your eyes without much compassion for the frail human ego.

Hey mushers. G-day eh. I found a easy way to explain what I know about the Siberian Husky breed rather than post a whole bunch of my own stories.
On your google search bar type in Chukchi Dog, search, click "images", scroll down 16 rows, far right a very old black and white photo of Indian looking couple with a baby in a cradle board(a dog in foreground),click it. (Whoops, I just rechecked. It's 18 rows down today.) When it opens, click on "visit page". "Siberian Husky History" will open.
Lotsa pix and a very straight forward article. Not your cookie cutter standardized, inbred, genetic weakling Sibes of today.

It's below zero here today. And a fairly stout Norhtwind is blowing a few snowflakes around. I'm getting really antsy. I'm constantly checking over my gear, talking to my dogs, kinda rough housie playing getting them kinda wired. Actually they can feel it coming. They are more than willing to "LET'S GO RIGHT NOW".
Aw I just pity them. I know they wana GO GO GO but I can only take 1 @ a time because they're so strong and then I gat played out after 3 dogs, so the rest of them gota wait. "Whine, whine whine" they keep telling me "LETS GO BUDDY".

I'm building another sleigh too. 8 foot bed ootawpunn. That's an old fashioned Indian sled. Like a BIG toboggan. Get it? Ootawpunn--- Toboggan??
Anyway, 8 feet long and 24 inches wide on the ground, another 3 feet of curl and another 3 feet sticking out the back for me and another human to stand.
So, if I put the front up against the wall and measured from the wall to the end of the tailing it would read 13ft4&1/4in.
The curl is tough to do because I soaked it too long. And I used well water instead of creek or rainwater. So the wood is pretty stiff. I may need to steam it because I certainly don't wana break it. I hope to have it finished before the end of October.

And how bout the rest of the mushers on BYC?

I don't know where Stern Rose lives but judging by "1 inch of snow" in one of her posts, I would think Eurohounds are probably better for her.
Alaskan Husky is good for warmer 0* -20*C although they can go into -30*C or a bit colder with the proper protective gear.
Sibes are a cold weather dog. -10, -30*C or a bit colder.
Malamute and McKenzie River Husky are both a colder weather dogs. Around -20,-40*C
Sam and Qimmiq are both extremely cold weather beasties. Like -40, -50, -60*C
I personally think it would be mean to have these cold and colder and coldest weather dogs to even live in a luke warm climate now indeed to mush with them.

A joke to drive home the point. "What's the definition of cruelty?....... Training homing pigeons then moving."

Oh yeah eh, Kansas was mentioned wasn't it. I just remembered.

Sorry Stern Rose. Even though I'm a bit on the ripening side of age my mind still has a hard time keeping up with me.
So, yeah, my thoughts are "go with Eurohounds". If you wanna get a little more serious about mushing anyway.
But please if you don't have to, don't get Mals or Macs or especially Sams or Qimmiqs.

Why take a Polar Bear to try live a natural life in the South American jungle or Mexico?

LOL! Yeah it was Kansas. I agree she shouldn't have long haired fluffy sleddogs like Mals.

http://www.sherakan.com/Sherakan/SiberianHuskyHistory/siberianhuskyhistory.htm ya mean this link?

I'm hoping for a year long on that pays decent. Mom and dad are getting me the basic sled equipment for Christmas and my sled for my b-day.
I'm gettin a few pups next year hopefully, they'll be lead and wheel.
Then while I have those I'm gunna build the play yard, gunna use the chain link we already have.
Then for for bowls, just use butter and ice cream buckets until I can get better bowls. Then for stake outs I'm gunna buy what ever dads says will be best. Then for the houses, just the little igloos I have, unless I can get cheap barrels or use some left over wood and make a long hut for both to share. Until I can get more wood/barrels.

sweet. Yeah, mushing is $$$. I use old pots, old medal bowls, etc for bowls. The dogs might chew plastic.
