Ok, take a minute and calm down. :hugs
I do agree it's unfair for her too not here the rest of your "speech" but please don't say you hate your mother. I know how you feel though, sometimes I wish people where dog, so that way, when they are just being mean or not paying attention when I need to say, I could pull the choke collar and get their attention.  Any way, don't give up on mushing. I don't know why she is saying "no." It may be something to do with attitude, responsibility, school etc. (These are just examples from my experience.)  I know how you feel, parents can be hard to understand, mainly because they are set in their ways and we as children are expected to adapt to them. Try to get her to hear you out and if all else fails, keep saving and planning and by the time you move out, you might have the money for an awesome sleddog team.

I know how ranting helps, I write letters to the person I'm mad at and then eat, shred, or burn them. Try doing that if you can it should help.:hugs

Again please don't say you hate your mom.

That was only the beginning to the reasons why I hate her. I'm not going to post more because if somebody finds out, they could take my sisters and me away from my dad and then I would never get to see him again. I don't think it's the school/responsibility/attitude thing as 1) I'm a straight A student 2) I take care of 40+ horses every day (feeding/watering, riding, etc.) and still find time for schoolwork 3) I don't give anywhere near the attitude that my big sister gives her. Every time I try to continue talking to her she ignores me and goes to her phone or watches tv. Yes, I know, I shouldn't hate my mother, she gave birth to me, raised me, blah blah blah. But if you had to deal with her, you would begin to hate her too. I would be completly fine on my own, if it wasn't illegal to live by your self until your 18. Even if I have to wait 5 more years until I'm old enough to move out, I'm not gonna give up on mushing. :) Maybe I should calculate all the costs and then whatever I could make. If I could at least break even she might think about it. I agree on the dog thing, :) it's a good concept. Sometimes I wish I was a bird so I could just fly away. Or any animal really; I wouldn't have to deal with my mother's drama. Maybe I will try the letter thing...

First off, DO NOT TALK ABOUT YOUR MOM LIKE THAT!! All moms have there days. Be glad you have a mom, my friends mom died 1yr ago.
2nd dont do it all at once. Do little bits here and there.
3rd, these things take time! Give it time! I've been trying for like 1-2yrs now! Lol

Oh, if you only knew mother. I'm just going to keep bugging her. Hmmm.... Maybe that what I should ask for my birthday/Christmas.... Hopefully if I just keep bugging her and ask my Dad they will break and say yes.

You mom might be going through something. Ask her little questions like what do you think about mushing. Give her a list of the things you'll need and prices. I did and my mom is alot more on board. I just haven't worked on dad. But if moms on board and I can get my grades up them I'm able to start saving up $$$
P.S. it's going to cost $3,695+ for your start up. If you go get shelter dogs. Maybe even more!
And DON'T HATE YOUR MOM!

I totaled up all the equipment costs for 6 dogs (6 harnesses, 6 sets of booties, gang lines, etc.) and its below $900 (if I get everything brand new, I'm hoping if I get a mentor, he/she might have some stuff I could use until I can afford my own things) that doesn't include dogs. But I found a 4 month old male Sibe an hour away for $200 plus those Mal/wolf crosses in my own town (not sure how much). I won't be getting all 6 dogs at once so the costs won't be all at once. If I do get dogs, I want to get the Sibe an hour away and start with him. Then, when think I'm ready for another, I'll get one or two of the Mal/Wolf pups. So, all equipment plus the male Sibe, a little less than $1,100. Then if I can't afford a Mal/Wolf pup, I could always breed Tess (Lab) to the Sibe and get basically the same cross that Nala's pups are (she usually has 8+ per litter so I could sell some to pay for the costs and still have enough for my team). I have it all planned out, and my mother didnt want to hear any of it. My mother has been like this for the past few years so I don't think she is "going through something". I know, I shouldn't hat my mother but I do. If you had to deal with her crap you would begin to hate her. I'm going to ask again today and see if she will hear me out (doubtful).

For the most part, SternRose is correct about the starting price. I was different for me. My 1st year of mushing cost me about $1300. Which isn't bad since I started with 4 dogs then dropped down to 3 now I'm working my way to 4 again. (After dropping a wheel dog) My mentor gave me two of her extra dogs (One who ran the Iditarod) for free and has agreed to sell me dogs for a lower price then what she usually would. MENTORS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I also built my sled and already had house, tie outs and my mentor basically gave me all the gangline, harnesses, etc. and helps me repair stuff.
Thanks

Start with a small amount of dogs like 1-4, you will be surprise how much 2 dogs can pull. Also don't start breeding your first year, it never ends well. If you can start out with 1-2 year old dogs. Puppies need an experienced musher to train them, 1-2 years still have the ability to learn quickly but aren't as ADHD as pups.

Thanks :hugs :)

Maybe your moms stressed out about money problems. My parents are and they share it with us. You never now. But you don't know how much "Crap" I deal with. Your little problem here is nothing to mine witch I can not share.

It's going to cost alot for setup, feeds going to cost alot. Spaying and neutering cost alot.
But if your dedicated to this the price is nothing, and you won't give up if you realy want to mush. :)

I'm only going to start with 1. When that one is trained (mostly at least) I will get another to train. I'll keep doing that until I have a team put together. I have some knowledge of training and plus I would be working with a mentor as much as possible. I already know how to care for pups and a preg dog but the training would be the only part I need to know more about. I could build my sled but eventually I would want a better one. That would subtract like $400, so $700 for the first year for equipment.

If only you knew my mother. If I post much more someone could find me and take me away from my Dad. I have to deal with a lot of crap, yes, I know, it could be worse. But she isn't exactly the best mother. I am not gonna continue because I don't want to get in trouble by the site administrators.

I have most of the stuff for housing and such and plenty of land. I know feed will cost a lot but I'm planning on raising a few lambs/goats as well as a bunch of broiler chickens to help out with feed costs. Plus we now have cattle so I'm gonna see if I can get all the organs from the butchers when we take a few steers to them next fall. And, I know someone who raises emu so I'm going to purchase unwanted organs and bones from them. I got the feed thing covered (for the most part) the chickens will be easy. Just feed them until 6 or 7 weeks, butcherand skin them, freeze, then feed them to the dogs.

What you can do (What most do) is train the leads then add the team part. Only leads really need to know the commands. Good luck!
