Americauna getting beat up...can she ever be with the flock

Really? I didn't realize that. I'll have hubby make one next weekend then so we have at least two. Thanks for sharing!

In a pinch, you can use a milk jug! lol. I run a stiff wire thru the top of the handle and can hang it on the fence or cage or anywhere. it even sits on the ground nice too. and cut two sides out, leaving just a couple inches of the side at the bottom. I had to recut all the way up to the spout almost so the roo could fit his big ole head and comb in there. I have several. lol. If they are that mean to her I would truely be worried about her food AND water. I like the idea too of the bantys. And each time you have her separated and reintroduce, its likely to ramp up the behaviour again. How's her boo boos?

We had a EE roo that was so sweet, he was smaller and got picked on so much, he wouldn't leave the roost! I ended up rehoming him to a place where he was the only rooster with his own little herim of hens!

Thanks guys! I am so thankful for this forum! You all have been so patient with this newbie...and I really appreciate that! Our "special" hen thanks you too!

I went from "gonna get me some sexlinks" thus no roos, and arranging a simple coop to having two roos I adore and two separate tiny flocks and two at least of everything else. Two pens plus two dog kennels for bachelor timeout in the coop, two separate areas for free ranging, 2 waterers + other water free ranging, multiple feeders (milk jugs I can carry around to separate areas for divided free ranging) lol. you get the idea. And not that I really MIND any of it. Seems to be part of the enjoyment of chickens good or bad. lol. And always thinking of getting more chickens...we just can't agree on pullets or babies!

What I did a couple times now when adding newbies is take out several of the stronger (top of the pecking order) birds and put them in a separate area all together not in the coop or run but completely out for two days and let the others get used to the new ones who aren't as mean to them. Then after two (sometimes it takes longer) days I add the others back in...they still do peck a little but seems to not be so harsh. If they continue to do it I will stand in there with them and when they pick at the new birds I grab them up and hold them upside down for a few seconds. They don't like this and tend to get the point after a while. If I have to, I take them out again.
