Here is a photo of my Bubbie- I purchased her as an Americauna along with another that someone said looks more like an Easter Egger- what do you think?? Am. or E.E.?? I'll also post a pic of my rooster who someone says is more than likely an E.E. and not an Am. Okay I uploaded 5 photos but when I previewed I only saw one- my rooster. I'll post anyway then add photos if needed- maybe the preview only shows the last photo I post???

They are both Easter-eggers. Neither conform to one of the standardized colors of the Ameraucana breed. For comparison, you can look at pictures of all of the accepted Ameraucana colors here: http://ameraucana.org/scrapbook.html

Pretty much, if they are sold as 'Americanas' (the breed name does not have an i in it), if they are sold as Ameraucana/Araucanas (two VERY different breeds), or if at anywhere in the add the seller calls them 'Easter egg chickens' (which pretty much spells it out), you can assume that they are NOT Ameraucanas, but Easter-eggers. Most true Ameraucanas will probably be labelled with their color name as well, so rather than buying an Ameraucana, you would buy a 'Wheaten Ameraucana', or a 'Blue Ameraucana', or a 'Silver Ameraucana'. Again, it's best to compare pictures to the Ameraucana.org site before committing to a purchase if you want true Ameraucanas. There are also project colors like Lavender or Mottled, which are not yet accepted but people are working toward getting them accepted. Whether the project colors are considered Ameraucanas or not really depends on who you are talking to, but at the very least they are a step toward Ameraucanas.

I will say as well, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Easter-eggers! I have 7, myself, and they are all different colors and lay different shades of blue and green eggs. I love my EEs. I can't picture myself not having some in my flock at any point in the future. They add a nice splash of color and personality to my flock. :)
