I am a newer chicken mommy and have been reading forums on Americaunas beign mislabeled and they are really EEs. I am wanting to make sure what my girl is. I purchased her from the local feed store from the Americauna pen. sorry for the quality of the pictures took with my phone. She is 17 weeks of age and has not started laying yet.

she has green legs which makes her an ee plus her coloring isnt one of the 8 colors although she is mainly wheaten she apparently has something else mixed in her

I am not an expert but this is what I have gatthered from my research as an "Ameracauna" owner: Sometimes if feed stores mispell the breed intntionally as Americauna instead of Ameracauna, then it could be that they are selling EE chicks instead. Also, if the chicken has green legs that is a giveaway that it is an EE as well. My hen is questionable lineage/breed but she is pretty, lays pretty greenish blue eggs and lots of them, and now is a wonderful mom to some chicks she hatched out (for another hen), so whether she is Aneracauna or EE, I am very pleased with her

thanks so much for the input. my son is wanting to take her to are local county fair in August and we are learning as we go. I showed horses growing up never poultry. I dont want to misguide my son as he learns. I have raised rir and barred rock, a first for EEs.

Fair is over kids did amazing...i took my girl and from what the judge and other breeders told me that she is indeed an Ameracauna.....

Yeah.......my county fair here is full of easter eggers shown and placing as ameracauas. Drives me nuts, sorry. One year a judge did not place them, asking the exhibitor what color the bird was. That poor judge got a lot of flack and I don't believe has been back.

she's an ee if you were to take her to an aba or apa show she wouldn't pass as a ameracauna. county fairs are completely different from those big shows. i find that county fairs are a bit leanate towards breeds and most don't really know the difference between the 2.

ameracauna have slate colored legs and only come in 8 recognized colors, your pullet isn't one of those colors sorry

thats what i was thinking figured if i did listen and enter her next year as an ameracauna then different judge would come and tell me she is an ee. I dont care what she is she is a beautiful sweet girl. her fair days are over..lol she was entered as an ee but the judge insisted she wasnt. he loved her gave her a blue said if she was entered as an ameracauna she would have received a purple. My son was happy with a blue. first year at the fair. he did recieve reserve grand champion with his black austrolorp.

She has a pretty wheaten color, that's probably a big reason why he insisted she was an Ameraucana. In the picture, though, her legs look green. That means EE.

(Also, purebred Ameraucanas are usually VERY expensive, so, the feed store price is not something a typical breeder would let one go at.) Feed stores usually buy their chicks from hatcheries, and no hatcheries, (well, maybe MPC now), carry Ameraucanas.

No mater what, she looks lovely and I'm sure she's laying you gorgeous eggs.

Congrats to your boy on his grand champion!
