Hi,
I bought this chick as an Ameraucana 4 weeks ago and it's growing much faster than the other 5 chicks (various non-Ameraucana breeds) that I got at the same time. When I went on-line to see if I could figure out if she was a he, I started wondering if it was even an Ameraucana because she doesn't seem to fit any of the traditional Ameraucana colorings. I realized I don't know how to tell the difference between an Ameraucana and and Easter Egger. She has cheek tufts. And her legs have a greenish tint.

I need some help! Anybody know how to tell what breed and what gender?

Thank you!

If she has greenish legs, she's an Easter egger, a mix. I have 4 of them & they are the friendliest of my 21 chicks. Watch for red patches on the wings, indicating a male. The comb will also tend to be wider & redder than a female. You might need to repost in a couple of weeks with a new photo.

It's definitely an Easter Egger instead of a true Ameraucana which have slate blue legs. The pics are slightly blurry to see the comb when I blow them up, but based on what looks like a large reddish comb with three rows of peas in it, I'd say you have a cockerel.

Well darn, I was hoping for a hen. I have a neighbor who has an Ameraucana rooster that terrorizes her flock and her family. I hope this one isn't like that! Thanks everybody for your time and thoughts.
