My friend has hatchery stock Americaunas that lay different shades of eggs. I would like to get some and hatch some for myself that will eventually lay blue eggs.
She only has Americaunas and she gets these different shades of eggs.

I was wondering if I should ask her for blue eggs only if that is the gene that I want my future birds to carry? Would they not carry it if they hatched from another color egg?

Those are Easter Eggers, not Ameraucanas

(no I in the name) There's actually a difference, so there's not really a "hatchery Ameraucana" - As no hatchery but one actually sells poor quality true Ameraucanas. And even that one only offers them in hatching egg form.

But yes, to get blue eggs, you must breed to a male (or females) you KNOW carry the genes for strictly blue eggs. It can be a bit of a hassle with Easter Eggers, your best bet is to introduce a true Ameraucana to the bunch.

I always seem to spell it wrong and not sure if I knew which way was actually correct. Seems spelled differently everywhere you look. :O) Thank you for clarifying the correct spelling.

Will all true Ameraucana roosters have white on the bottom of their feet? My brother in law recently purchased a grown Ameraucana roo. Any way to tell for sure that it isn't an Easter Egger? He's beautiful and looks just like an Ameraucana with a pea comb and slate legs, but are there other ways to be sure?

I'm also going to an auction soon and would like to be able to tell for sure if what I'm looking at is a true Ameraucana since I won't be able to look at their feet when they are in the cages.

Yes, all true Ameraucanas have white on the bottom of the feet.

Signs of one being an Easter Egger are colors other than white on the soles of the feet, or slate gray or black on the legs, and the biggest sign is the color. If the roosters' color does not match the recognized Ameraucana colors almost to the EXACT, he is not an Ameraucana.

Some Easter Eggers do have slate legs. . . All or almost all have pea combs. The big sign is the plumage color.

it is pretty easy to tell true ameracaunas from ee's, ee's rarely come in recognised colors and ameracaunas come only 9 or 10 colors now so if it not one of those true colors it an ee as of now
