I'm new with egg laying hens.
I have two Americuanas that began laying eggs two weeks ago. The hens between the two of of them laid 4 eggs (hard shell). The rest of the eggs (4 of them) has been soft shells. Is this normal for Americuanas?
Are you feeding enough calcium? I assume it’s normal for them to be back and forth on the soft and normal egg shell scale. But make sure that there is calcium available to them. That is usually the case of soft shell eggs.
That's not necessarily normal for any breed. There are a few factors to look at such as age and diet. I believe pullets new to laying sometimes have some glitches in the beginning that need to be worked out, it also could be a deficiency in their diet such as not enough calcium.
