Amerucana variety....HELP

I am entering an amerucana in fair later this summer as a pullet but she is not full grown yet. I need to do the forms now though and do not know her coloration. I am thinking she is brown red, but she is not that black, more alot of different shades of brown. I got her from Ideal Poultry. Any answers?

She is named Sarah Jr. after our favorite chicken died a few months ago but I call her Hawk, because she looks like one.

I no expert but really thinking you got yourself an EE pullet. There are a few hatcheries that do sell TRUE Ameraucana but most sell EE as Ameraucana If you go online, search Ameraucana ....

The Ameraucana is one of the few chicken breeds to lay blue eggs.[7]:11 It shows many similarities to the Araucana, including the pea comb and the blue egg gene. It is tailed, muffed and bearded, whereas the Araucana in the United States has earmuffs and is rumpless.[8] The earlobes are small and round, the wattles small or absent; earlobes, comb and wattles are all red. The shanks are slate-blue, tending to black in the black plumage variant.[6]:37

Eight color variants are recognized in the American Standard of Perfection: black, blue, blue wheaten, brown red, buff, silver, wheaten and white.[2]

This is what Ideal Poultry Ameruacana Breed thingy says:

"Ameraucanas, known as the "Easter Egg Breed", are a multicolored breed. They have beards, muffs and a normal tail with a tail head. They are often incorrectly called Araucanas, which have ear tuffs, are rumpless, and do not have a tail head which gives them a bunny tail appearance. Most of the chicks sold as Araucanas are really Ameraucanas, which are excellent, efficient producers of large eggs of many colors and shades including blue and green.

Standard weights at maturity are males-5 lbs. and hens-4 lbs.

Our poultry is purebred and represent the breed and variety; however, we do not guarantee or represent that they are show quality.


Ideal Poultry is one of the top hatcheries. Really think she is EE? They called ameruacanas "known as the Easter Egg breed". Is that their justification?

EE are mixed breeds. Usually with a brown egg layer and a blue egg layer. You know when you are buying the real thing when you are buying a specific color like blue, black, wheaten. Also real ameracaunas(however it’s spelt) are costly usually $20-40 a chick so if your only spending a couple dollars it’s an EE.

She's a pretty girl, but her characteristics do not appear to be consistent with the Ameraucana breed. I agree with the others that you've got yourself an Easter Egger there.
