Amorous Rooster

My rooster, Dominick, is an insatiable sex addict. He has nine hens and it seems like in the short time they actually get to free range every day (3 hours), he will mount each one at LEAST once.
What's up with this guy ? Doesn't he ever want to maybe take a break and smoke a cigarette or something? The girls don't seem to mind all that much, but he has just come of age not long ago and seems a bit clumsy sometimes (falls off, etc.), and the girls seem to have a good giggle when that happens.
I am thinking of renaming him Vinnie "Twinkletoes" Viagra.

Someone once said weeks are like years for roosters: 14 weeks old is like a 14 year old teenager. All hormones and no knowledge to back it up. 17 weeks = 17 years, just as much hormones and no finesse. Clumsy, fumbling, horny as all get out.

When Carl was younger, he would come out of the coop first, then try to "tag" each and every pullet as she exited the coop. Now he just grabs one and is satiated until a bit later in the day.

Now I've got two Silver Sebright roos and they are about 19, 20 weeks old, so they're right in that horrible, sex-starved stage. They TAG TEAM pullets - and the only mature pullets are large/standard fowl breeds. The little boys can't quite .... ummmm... reach. Often, the harassed lady will just stand up and walk away, causing the little boy to fall off. She fluffs her feathers, like a shrug, and he runs after her to try again.

But not if Carl is around - he won't let them bother his ladies!

Only once to each hen in 3 hours? That's only 9 times. You ain"t seen 'nothin yet! Wait till next spring when lengthening days cause an even greater spurt in testosterone production.

Young roos can be pretty brutal. When he hits two or so, he'll settle down. I almost never see my 6 yo roo doing the dance around his hens, just feeding them and watching out for danger. In his younger days, he'd hunt down every hen and then some.
