amount of food to give turkeys

How much food should I put out for three turkeys? My brother bought a hanging feeder and the turkeys seem to waste a lot spilling it on the ground.

Hang your feeder higher. I let my five have all they want. They are not spilling food so your hanger either has too low of an edge, or its too low or both. The feeder I use on my turkeys is an older one with 2.5 to 3 inch edge. I took all of the smaller edge feeders away from them because mine were doing the same.

Rationing food will just slow down growth. If they are still on starter mash spilled is just going to get wasted cause they won't really clean it up by eating it. If they are pellets they will do better at cleaning up the spills, but that starts at 8-10 weeks.

I use a kiddy pool to feed in. They don't waste anything. I let them eat as much as the want.

I have a 50-lb capacity hanging feeder. I keep the rim as high as the back of the smallest turkey, and very little is wasted. But I like the pool idea as long as you can keep it dry. Seems like getting the food out to clean it might be a pain.

I was having the same problem with mine wasting a lot of grain when I was using a 30# galvanized hanging feeder. It was very shalow and they would scoop up the feed and drop a lot on the floor which they refused to clean up. i switched to a larget plastic one with dividers all around so they cannot scoop, this has stopped a lot if ot most of the waste for me.
