I got three turkey poult siblings that my neighbor hatched out a few weeks ago to add my first turkeys to my mixed breed flock. They're 10 weeks old now and one of them has gotten a lot bigger in the past week or two. They're all Bourbon Red x Midget White. I would love for this to be a jenny but I'm feeling like it's a jake.

Far too young to sex from photos. If you don't want to wait, there are a number of places that will do DNA sexing from either a blood or feather sample.

It appears to be the variety Red Bronze.

Having it sit on your shoulder may seem cute when it is a poult but will not be appreciated once it is an adult. If it is a tom, your human imprinting of it may come back to haunt you. The imprinting removes their ability to understand that there is a difference between turkeys and people. In the case of a male bird that gets as big as a turkey, it can become human aggressive and very dangerous.

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping to have friendly turkeys so I've been spending time with them in their grow out pen until they (and my 3 month old pullets) are big enough to free range with the rest of my flock. I was under the impression that getting them used to spending time around people was the way to do that. They like to hop up in my lap for pets and to take a nap, and occasionally perch on one of my arms, climb over my shoulders and perch on the other. Is there something different I should be doing to assure they're friendly and not defensive as they get older?

Avoid as much contact with them as possible when they are little. You can tame them safely once they are older and understand that there is a difference between them and people.

Some people get away with human imprintiing hens but that can also present the problem with them accepting toms as mates once they are older.

You may find the thread Tribute to @memphis and her Lapper turkeys interesting as she safely made "lappers" of her turkeys.

I would like to add onto the imprinting hens bit, as I’ve managed to breed my human imprinted hen.

You can trick them into squatting for a person, and then switch for the tom. It can involve a lot of failure, but will work eventually.

Alternate option is finding this specific spot under the hens wings that makes her squat when massaged. Discovered that on accident when I was petting my imprinted hen.

I prefer the first option, but the second is also totally viable, just a tad bit awkward :p
