Amounts??

We buy 20% pellets in a brand named 'Winner' from a local farmstore. They also carry a 19% crumble by 'Bartlett', which I use for growing chicks between 8 - 16 weeks of age.

We also use 28% game crumbles. But I only feed what they can cleanup in about 1-2 hrs. I wet it to reduce waste and feed it in 13 x 9 metal pans. The chickens love it. They run over after those wetted crumbles like I was serving hot cereal, bread or meat! LOL

We also feed garden refuse, greens and scraps - the higher protein feeds keep these things from dragging their total protein down.

Chickens don't usually overeat NORMAL FEED. I can fill up the food trough and leave for the weekend with no worries. Don't let it get too old though, and if it gets wet or something, throw it away...

Same with water.

The litter has been building up in my coop over the Winter months. I really need to move the feeder higher up the chain from the ceiling. Either that, or clean out the coop now that we are having a thaw.

Forces those messy little critters up on their toes to get at the feed.

Water? I rinse and refill once a day; twice if it's hot; three times if it's freezing.

My neighbor has that same set up but reverted to a heated dog dish for the winter when the supply pipes froze. I suggested heat tape on the pipes. But tha wouldn't be a problem in FL!
