An article to back up "naysayers" of releasing pen-raised Bobwhites

I have turned out about 800 Quail in the last 2 years on different ranches. We figure 60 percent have made it. Most people release their birds at the wrong age. In order for them to survive, they need to be released at the age of 6to8 weeks when they still have some wild habits. Older birds are to dependent on someone bringing them the groceries.We have seen young birds that have raised in May of this year. Mother nature plays a big part on whether they survive or not. Without rain ( NO WEEDS,NO BUGS<NO PROTEIN). A quails first 4 weeks in life is Bug Time and after that it"s time for the seeds
