My young Leghorn /Legbar cross went broody on one of the nest boxes. To move her out of the nest box in the coop and onto a new nest in the broody area I used a trick that my mom suggested. I prepped the new nest and waited till late afternoon. I slipped a small a sock over the hens head. That was easier then I thought it would be. She calmed down and I was able to remove her from the old nest, place her on the new one and then put her eggs under her. I pulled the sock off and she settled down with no problems. Its day 20 now and I expect chicks soon. Its great to have a mom who was raised on a farm in the 30's, she knows a lot about raising animals prior to the industrialization of farms.

That's a cool trick!

I've just resigned myself to wearing gloves when working with my broody ladies.

My trick for moving them is, my nest boxes are all rubbermaid tubs. When I need to move a hen, I just pick up the tub she's nesting in and put her where I want her
