An eye problem

i have a Cuckoo Maran that has a serious eye problem. I have been treating her with Terramycin for the eyes and just dose not seem to be getting better. She now has yellow stuff around her nostril on that side of her face. She is with a silkie who's eye is not as bad but is also closing her eye and have been treating her also. They also are receiving medicated crumbles mixed in with starter crumbles. they are about 16 weeks old and not laying. I bought some Terramycin Soluble powder today. Was going to start using that in their water but can not figure out how much to put in two gallons of water. Every day i can get a bout a clump of white stuf out of her eye and then i put in medication. can some one help me with this. She is not herself and this has been going on for a while. she is raspy sounding also. other chickens she was with some are coughing was going to treat all with water soluble antiboitic

Hi,

Make sure you give them clean bedding it may be wet/moldy and causing problems.
This type of thing happens in the wet spring/fall weather. JUST AN IDEA-IT MAY NOT BE RELIVENT.

Terramycin Powder - Add 1/2 teaspoon per gallon DUMP AND MAKE FRESH EVERYDAY.

THATS MY SILKIE DIRECTIONS A LARGER BREED CAN HAVE 1 Teaspoon per gallon of water.

If the drainage has a putrid smell it is Infectious Coryza. There is no treatment it is contagious and the only way to get rid of it is to kill the birds.

from what i read it is not Infectious Coryza. Her face is not swollen. Just her eye. I have started all of them on Terramcin to see if that will help. the others she was with a coughing and stretching necks including my peahen. hope i can treat this...i do not want to lose them all. Nobody is really acting sick ..just coughing and raspy with the one with the bad eye.

the bioavailability of the water soluable terramycin is low and in addition a sick bird will often not drink enough of the water to get the therapeutic amount needed to treat the condition... I would halve the amount of water used .
You can also give an injection tylan (in addition to the terramycin)... I have this this combo advised for many respiratory conditions.
