Hi all!

Long time lurker here and this is my first post!

I just wanted to bounce an idea off with you all about coop doors because I realized that chickens tend to want to be let out (and locked in) of the coop at odd hours of the day when I may be indisposed.

I've seen the automatic doors on timers but the price is a turn off ...has anyone tried to use an electromagnetic pet Flap as a secured door?

These are supposed to be lockable pet doors that only open to pets with the electromagnetic collar. There's a cheaper $20 version with a simple magnet and then there are the ones with the RFID chip.

I know the chickens would have to be trained to use a flap type door but the thing that I'm curious how the chickens would wear the "chip or collar".

Thanks!

Well initially I thought an anklet could be worn (like falcons used in falconry) but I'm finding that both the electromagnetic and RFID type doors must be pretty close - ie worn at collar length. So it looks like I'm back to looking at motorized doors with timers ;(
