Danny,,
been trying to get my buff d'anver to breed for two years, just so I can make barred buffs in them too. and low and behold for the first time in the 2 years I had them, I got 2 eggs yesterday from them....
but on your male, you can breed that barred buff to anything and will get barred. If you have a buff hen in the same breed, that's all you need to continue the barred buff.
if not you will just get black barred from most other combos you would use. These will carry the buff genes though, so breed them back 1-2 generations to that barred buff male and eventually you get some hens back that way as well. Just takes time. The buff is hard to make in a good clean color. It's so bad, the chicken caluculator wont even let you put plain buff into the system, just too many variables in it.
But that's what I'd try for now, solid colors will be you best bet if you dont have a buff hen to use, thisway you'll be less likely to pick up undesirerable patterns in the buff like a black tail or wing tips.
but the male being barred is going to make all your offspring barred to right from the get go. I would use a black hen if you dont have a solid buff to use, and breed back from there
