An Uncle, A Rooster, And A Dog

My dog has killed five chickens over the last year - if they're loose and she get's loose it's over - every time. I can totally relate to frustration - I have had the dog for 10 years - and the chickens for 1.5 years - can I shoot her - nah - do I want to when she kills a chicken - yep - everytime. It's disturbing - and when you're upset - the whole "it's just a dog and you can't blame the dog for doing what a dog does thing" just doesn't help a person - and I'd be willing to bet that most of the folks that comfort you by saying such a thing never had a dog they loved kill chickens they love. Hang in there! I hope your Uncle enjoys his chickens - that won't be the last chicken story he has for sure!

My rule is.. no dogs in the barn lot. If my chickens fly over the fenge into dog territory, they're history. I haven't lost very many this way, but I did loose a Royal Palm hen last week to the dogs side of the fence. BUMMER
