An unexpected visitor...

Wow, he is nice looking! I'm no expert, but he looks to me to be a Black Shoulder Blue India variety of Peafowl. The different between the Black Shoulder and a typical Blue India is the wing color. Yours has a black wing instead of the brown and while barred look of the typical Blue India! I have to say I am a bit jealous... but I still love my Mr. Handsome Houdini

Here is a picture of my peacock, you can see his barred pattern really well! He is still a youngster though, only 2 years old. Yours looks quite a bit older from his nice full tail!

To help convince him to stay, try a wild bird mix feed and black and white sunflower seeds, mine LOVES sunflower seeds!
Good Luck!

RuralMama, he is a spaulding peafowl, an hybrid with green peafowl blood and IB peafowl blood. Hence the bit of black in his wing, and the greenish feathers of his neck, and shape of his face.

That is how we got our peacock....he just showed up one day! We have had him for about 4 years now and every August we go out looking for his feathers! He is so beautiful!

Your peacock is gorgeous, Kelsey! I never thought of bird seed...thanks!

DreamBird, I tried youtube, but the video is choppy. I haven't tried mimeo yet. We're furiously trying to finish our coop because we're picking the rest of our chickens on Tuesday and I have some important paperwork projects to get out of the way so I'll have to try again in a week or two....sorry

Tracy, we believe he is lost. We think we know where he's from and my stepson called them about a week ago. They did lose a peacock but haven't tried to retrieve him yet.

Linda,

Thanks, he is a pretty boy for sure. He is still young, only about 2 years. Can't wait until he grows up and we get to experience the beauty of a full tail.

Here is a photo I took of him today in the back yard in one of the trees over our turkey pen:

Good luck with your new visitor!

Wow, he's stunning already! I wish hubby would let me keep peacocks. It's not that I need permission so much as I need help building pens and stuff, LOL! I guess I could sneak a peahen or two over here and claim they must have gotten lost too
