When to the coop yesterday and saw this guy. While I was working he the coop he slithered out a small hole where the wall meet the roof. Came back out this morning and found him back in the same spot. I looked it up and it’s a black rat snake from what I can tell.

Got a snake hook?

Black rat snakes, as far as i know, aren’t awful. They rarely dine on poultry eggs, and really are just a potential threat for hatchlings. And are not venomous. I don’t have experience with snakes as pests for chickens, but hopefully you get rid of it.

Do that to a rat infestation and you got yourself some lovely diseased rats and some snippy snakes. Sounds like a plan to me.

Call it “the salmonella farm”

Eastern Rat Snake. They will eat eggs. I've moved a few. I have the Western variety though. Also some speckled King Snakes, but never seen them eat an egg. All free rodent control.
