Average hatch date is day 21. Some lines and local incubator variations can cause pips as early as day 19 and as late as day 23 and still have good chicks!

Don't worry about shrink wrap. I think it is over rated. Often I think people cause it by opening the bator while a chick is still in a pip, OR think a chick is "shrink wrapped" when in reality, they are somewhat "wrapped up" in the membrane and it is how it does look normally; people tend to assume the worst.

Thanks Mrs Fluffy Puffy. I have resorted to wine at this point and given up on history. I can't focus with them crying um I mean chirping. I have 4 pips now. The last to pip is doing a better job zippping than all the rest put together. The 2nd one to pip has made very small progress. the 3rd nothing since the pip, and the last one well it is trying to zip but I can't see how much as it is zipping around towards the side laying on the bator floor, but I do see 2 of the smallest pieces of eggs on the floor beside it. If you had of told me last year my heart would be laying on the floor of an incubator I would have never NEVER believed you. I know I seriously need to relax but that has never been one of my stronger points. I am exhausted and hope to pass out soon, wake up in the morning with 16 chicks happy and healthy chicks! Oh and OUT OF THAT EGG SHELL! Thank you for the well wishes. Not sure what I would do without all the help from the wonderful people on this board.

Just an update. There are 7 chicks hatched one has pipped but not hatched. I have 10 that have not done anything nor are they doing anything. Now at lockdown I tossed all clear and had 4 I was unsure about, but one of those 4 hatched just fine. The one that was rocking right after lockdown has never even pipped. It was one of the smaller eggs and my friend told me that maybe it just did not have room to turn around. I haven't a clue though. The temp and humidity are still stable and I have had no big ups or downs since starting incubation.
I did open the bator

the babies were all over the unhatched eggs moving them around, bumping it was a train wreck in there. I will diffently use egg cartoons next time. So I took the bator in the bathroom ran the shower and a portable heater got it pretty warm and humid that way, then I wedged a strip of cardboard the length of the bator and seperated the eggs and chicks. I have had 3 hatch since then with no problems. Now the 10 eggs are sitting in there doing nothing, I can't tell if they are chirping due to the other chicks.
Oh I did not do any of this alone my friend Judy showed up to help calm me and help with the bator. So I can not take all the credit. Thanks Judy if you read this.

The good news is I have 4 blue or black silkies, 3 white (one still zipping) and one splash. All seem to be healthy, no crooked beaks or foot or leg problems thus far. I would post pics but I am behind on my class work and my sleep. I will probably pass out soon as this is posted. Oh and still on a better note ALL my chicks outside in both pens put themselves to bed tonight. Wow I have been working with the babies on using the ramps and I had 2 in the adult pen still not using it. Tonight when I went out to check and put everyone to bed they were already there.

Thanks everyone for your help. Keep your fingers crossed for the others. I can go back and check my records tomorrow and look at air cells pics and things like that to see if there were early signs of this happening. I took pics along the way while candling I know I started with a few porus and at lock down had some funny looking air sacs. Too much to think about at this time.

If there is still hope let me know I plan on leaving in till weeping or 25 days whichever comes first but will have to take the hatched chicks out at some point.

8 out of the chicks that pipped all hatched. The other 10 are still in the bator. I do not think it is looking good for them. They have not pipped or moved or chirpped best I can tell. The temps are still good and so is humidity. Any suggestion? I am at loss right now. Most looked developed at lockdown I do remember some odd shaped air sacs. And I know I had a few tiny eggs which my friend told me she does not have good results with small long eggs. I did not really have any problems with temps or humidity the whole period of incubation. On day 3 or so of incubation I did have humidity problem my fault though I was misusing the meter. So on day 3 to 4 the humidity was around 70 but I fixed that and they had still developing at lockdown. There were 4 eggs in there at lockdown I could not see well enough to toss so I kept them in. And one hatched. I just would like some answers. Will these egg pip? I read on one thread that maybe you need to pip them. That is not something I think I could do my first incubation. But would try if you all said it was in their best interest.

I just hatched 22 out of 23 eggs. 14 hatched day 21. 5 hatched day 22. 2 hatched day 23. last one hatched day 24. So some can take longer than others.
