My husband just administered .25cc Penicillin to a sick chicken in the breast (slightly to the side of the breast bone). He put it in about 1/2 cm, pulled out to ck for blood, clear, injected. She almost immediately went into shock...probably she will be gone soon, but answers for others/next time, thanks :(

Oh my, how awful. I'm so sorry that has happened. Keep her warm. Is her chest swollen near the injection site that might indicate a leak in an air sac? Do you by any chance have benadryl around? She may not be alert enough to take it, but if she is I would try it. I have heard of other chickens dying after Tylan injection, so it can happen, but it must be so upsetting. I hope she snaps out of it.

can you crush/melt them and inject it??

need one of those epi pens. i just knew i get benadryl shots when i get into something i shouldnt. i have never heard of that before. thanks eggsessive.

she has passed on, she went unconscious within a min-two and died within 3-4 mins. We have Benedryl, but no way to get it in. No air sac leak, thx for suggesting we check.
My husband is guessing she was just so weak the needle was too much for her OR she had a sensitivity to the drug.
He's performing a necropsy on her now to see what may have gone wrong, if anything physically detectable, and also what had her sick in the first place (if discernible).

Keep any experiences/suggestions coming, esp. anyone who might know if something else happened that if we did something wrong. Thanks!

Does anyone there have an epi-pen? That could treat anaphylactic shock with a tiny dose--risky, but as a last ditch effort. I would wonder if an air sac might have been punctured, but there would be swelling.

So sorry. What were you treating her for? This goes to show that everything comes with a risk when giving medications. I don't know how she could have been allergic to it without every having it before.
